If you're planning a holiday in the Sultanate of Oman, you should be aware that a visa is required for travel of more than 14 days. It is essential to apply for a visa before you travel, and to do so online. It is no longer possible to obtain a visa on arrival, as was the case in recent years. How do you apply for a visa for Oman?

Which visa for your stay?

There are two types of visa for tourists visiting Oman. Which one should you choose? Depending on the profile of your trip, you can apply for :

  • the visa 30 days with a single entry into Oman; you will have to pay approximately 49 € consular fees. This is THE visa you need if you are going to stay for more than ten days.
  • the visa 30 days but with multiple entries in Oman; the most expensive, you have to pay almost 121 € consular fees to obtain this visa. This visa is worthwhile if, for example, you plan to visit Oman more than twice a year. In addition, if you want to drive to the Musandam peninsula via the United Arab Emirates, this type of visa is essential. In the latter case, you will need to make 2 entries into Oman. It is for this reason that multiple-entry visa is recommended here.

You can apply for one of these visas on the official website at http://evisa.rop.gov.om/.

How do I apply?

You therefore need to go to the official website to make your request. You need to start by creating a personal account. Next comes the visa application form. You need to click on "Apply Visa" and then on "Apply for unsponsored visa".

You will then be asked to enter your nationality and whether or not you live in a Gulf country. After this stage, you can choose the type of visa you require (see paragraph above).

Continue with your application by filling in all the information required for any visa application (your civil status, passport details, etc.). Payment is by credit card. After payment, you will receive an e-mail confirming that your request has been registered and your payment validated.

Your application is then processed by the Omani authorities. Rest assured, the processing time is very short, often taking place within the day. Once your application has been validated and approved, you will receive your e-visa by e-mail, in PDF format. It's up to you to print it out and present it on arrival in Oman. To do this, go to the immigration desk at the airport (often Muscat) with your e-visa and passport.

Using a professional agency

If you're having trouble filling in your application, or if you're afraid that it will be refused because of an error on your part, then it's best to put your trust in a professional agency. As the application is in English, it may not be easy to fill in the correct information. The slightest error could result in your application being rejected. The agency will guide you through the process and act as an intermediary between you and the Omani authorities. Once your application has been validated, the agency is also responsible for sending you your e-visa. Once again, nothing complicated: print out the e-visa and present it at your arrival airport.
