To visit the Sultanate of Oman, nationals of several countries, including France, must first apply for a visa. You can either apply for a traditional visa, or opt for a simplified procedure by going online to obtain what is known as an e-Visa. How does this work? What is the validity of these visas?

What's the status of the classic visa?

Since March 2018, it is no longer possible to go through the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman, located in Paris, to be issued with a classic visa.

This is also the case for visas on arrival, which until now could be obtained at Muscat airport. From now on, for all tourist trips, it is compulsory to apply for a visa for Oman directly online. Nationals of France or any other European Union country must apply online for a visa before their stay in Oman. The Omani authorities have set up a website for all users wishing to obtain a visa to visit the Sultanate of Oman.

The e-Visa

The electronic visa or e-Visa is now compulsory and the only option for travellers wishing to visit Oman. It's a particularly quick process, taking around ten minutes to fill in the form and complete the application. What's more, you'll receive a reply within 24 hours of submitting your application.

It is advisable to apply in good time, however, as it is not unusual for the Omani authorities to ask for additional information or to request a visa. documents to be added to your basic application. Please note, however, the validity of the e-Visa has recently been reduced (since July 2018) from 6 to 1 month from the date of issue. In short, visitors have one month to enter Oman once the e-Visa has been issued. Once they have entered Oman, visitors can stay for up to 30 days.

To apply, go to the website set up by the Omani authorities and follow the steps. Be careful to fill in the form correctly (often in English), as a mistake could lead to your application being rejected and your e-Visa being delayed.

If you need help, you can use a specialist visa agency, which will submit your application directly to the authorities. That way, obtaining your e-Visa is simplified.
