It is customary for all travellers to obtain a residence permit or visa issued by the destination country. In a country such as Oman, where the traditional visa is no longer required for many destinations, there is now talk of an e-Visa (electronic visa). How do you go about obtaining an e-Visa for a sporting event in this Middle Eastern country?

What is the e-Visa for Oman?

Since 21 March 2018, the Sultanate of Oman has abolished the traditional visa for 102 nationalities for an electronic e-visa, called the Oman e-visa. This is not a request for authorisation to obtain the visa on the spot, but a real visa issued online and to be presented on embarkation and arrival in Oman.

  • the e-30-day visa single entry for 20 OMR (48 €)
  • the e-30-day multiple-entry visa over one year for 50 household waste (120 €).

Always remember to specify the correct date of your stay.

What type of e-Visa should a sportsperson travelling to Oman apply for?

Generally, international sporting competitions last thirty days (one month). Sportsmen and women wishing to take part in an international sporting competition in Oman must apply for a single-entry e-Visa for a maximum of 30 days. The traveller will receive a reply within 72 hours.

Conditions for obtaining an e-Visa for Oman

Athletes whose country qualifies them for a sports competition in the Sultanate of Oman must meet certain conditions in order to obtain an Omani e-Visa. These include:

  • be from one of the following countries: all the countries of the European Union, South America (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, etc.), Australia, Canada, USA, China, etc.

Nationals of visa-exempt countries must apply for an AVE Oman electronic travel authorisation. Those not on this list should contact the Consular Department of the Sultanate's embassy.

How do I obtain an e-visa for Oman?

To obtain an e-Visa for Oman for a sports competition, you can apply via the official website of the Sultanate of Oman. It is also possible to go through a private structure. This is a start-up from Nantes (created in 2017) that has developed real expertise in the e-Visa field in just 3 years. It is responsible for simplifying administrative formalities for individuals and travel agencies.
