The Sultanate of Oman is a destination of choice for those who want to combine a change of scenery with serenity. More and more tourists are letting themselves be tempted by the charms of this destination. So don't hesitate any longer! Organise your stay in Oman. Here are the keys to preparing your trip!

Choosing the right time to leave

The weather in Oman is fine all year round! The country only has around ten days of rain a year. The periods to avoid are not rainy but... very hot! The climate can quickly become arid. If you leave between April and June, your stay can quickly turn into a furnace. The peak tourist season, and the season most recommended by the various travel blogs, is between November and March. Temperatures are mild during the day. Beware, however, that they drop quite quickly at night.

You can also leave between July and Octoberthe ideal shoulder season to discover the south of the Sultanate.

Book your flight

As with any trip abroad, you need to find out all you can about airfares, but also about the dates when you can save money, choosing the right airline, and so on. It's a good idea to early booking and book your tickets well in advance. That way there are no nasty surprises! You're free to choose the date and day you want to travel, at the best price!

Do I need a visa?

A visa is compulsory if you are staying for more than 14 days. However, you should check that your nationality does not require a visa for shorter stays. Until recently, you could apply for a visa on arrival, this is no longer possible. You will therefore need to apply for your visa in advance.

There are two types of visa for visiting Oman: the 30-day single-entry visa and the 30-day multiple-entry visa.

Applying is very simple. Everything is now done online. You need to go to the official Omani government website. First you need to create your personal account. Only then will you be able to fill in the visa application form. Please note that the site is in English. To apply, click on "Apply Visa" and then on "Apply for unsponsored visa". You must enter your nationality and specify whether you live in a Gulf country. You can then choose the type of visa you wish to apply for.

You will also need to enter your marital status and passport details. You can pay directly online, using a bank card. Once you have paid, you will receive an e-mail confirming that your application has been registered and your payment taken into account.

The authorities in the Sultanate of Oman will decide whether or not to approve your application. The turnaround time is relatively short, often just one day. If your application has been validated, you will receive your electronic visa (or e-visa) by e-mail, in PDF format. Make sure you print it out, as you will need to present it on arrival in Oman at the immigration desk at the airport.

What about specialist agencies?

A number of agencies have sprung up to help you with the administrative procedures involved in applying for an e-visa. Some people find it difficult to fill in the visa application correctly, as it is in English. If you decide to use a specialist agency, it will act as an intermediary between you and the Omani authorities. If your application is approved, the agency will send you your e-visa by e-mail. The procedure is then the same: you print it out and present it at the arrival airport.
